# Error reference: Scope of the action

Is the action within the mandate's action type, amount limit, currency and counterparty?

This is where KYA's core question is decided: was the specific action within the limits of the mandate? The check compares action type, amount, currency and counterparty of the action with the mandate's limits.

Constraints the engine does not know are handled cautiously: what cannot be checked does not count as met.

## `action_not_in_scope`

**The action type is outside the mandate.**

**Cause:** The action type is not allowed in the mandate, for example an order where only bookings are permitted.

**Fix:** Act only within the permitted limits, or issue a separate mandate for the new action type.

## `amount_exceeds_limit`

**The amount exceeds the mandate's limit.**

**Cause:** The amount of the action exceeds the mandate's limit.

**Fix:** Act within the limit or obtain an approval. If such cases accumulate, check whether agent or mandate are configured incorrectly.

## `currency_mismatch`

**The currency differs from the mandate.**

**Cause:** The currency of the action does not match the currency of the limit in the mandate.

**Fix:** Use the mandate's currency or issue a mandate with the matching currency; KYA does not convert currencies.

## `counterparty_not_allowed`

**The counterparty is not permitted by the mandate.**

**Cause:** The counterparty of the action is not on the list of permitted counterparties.

**Fix:** Act only with permitted counterparties, or deliberately add the new counterparty to the mandate.

## `mandate_without_scope`

**The mandate has no scope. An unlimited authority cannot be checked.**

**Cause:** The mandate contains no scope, neither action types nor limits. It therefore cannot be checked whether an action was allowed.

**Fix:** Issue mandates with action types, limits and counterparties. A mandate without scope acts like blanket authority.

## `constraint_not_supported`

**A mandate constraint cannot be checked automatically without further input, for example without the merchant's key.**

**Cause:** The mandate contains a constraint the engine does not know. What cannot be checked does not count as met.

**Fix:** Use constraints from the verification profile. Your verifying party must evaluate custom constraints itself.

## `no_action`

**No action in the evidence.**

**Cause:** The evidence contains no specific action, for example only a mandate. Without an action, the scope cannot be checked.

**Fix:** Also present the decision or the receipt of the action.

## Common situations

Most common is an exceeded amount, followed by counterparties that are not permitted. Both point to limits set too narrowly or to an agent that is mistaken or was manipulated.
