# Error reference: Revocation

Is the mandate neither revoked nor suspended according to the status list?

A mandate can be revoked before it expires. This check reads the mandate's status from the status list it refers to and checks the status list itself: whether it is provided, signed and readable.

If the status list is missing, revocation remains unchecked. Following the fail-closed principle, the verdict then becomes indeterminate rather than valid.

## `revoked`

**The mandate is revoked.**

**Cause:** According to the status list, the mandate is revoked.

**Fix:** Do not use the mandate any longer. For new actions, the agent needs a new, valid mandate.

## `suspended`

**The mandate is suspended.**

**Cause:** According to the status list, the mandate is temporarily suspended.

**Fix:** Clarify with the issuer why the mandate is suspended. Until lifted, it carries no actions.

## `status_value_unknown`

**The status list reports an unknown value.**

**Cause:** The status list contains a value for the mandate whose meaning is not defined, for example an application-specific value.

**Fix:** Clarify the meaning of the value with the issuer. Until then, the status counts as not proven.

## `status_list_not_provided`

**No matching status list was provided.**

**Cause:** The mandate refers to a status list that was not provided. Revocation remains unchecked, and the verdict does not become valid.

**Fix:** Provide the current status list under status lists. KYA does not load status lists from the network itself.

## `status_list_unverified`

**The status list is not demonstrably from the issuer.**

**Cause:** The status list is provided, but its signature could not be verified, for example because the issuer's key is missing.

**Fix:** Also provide the key of the status list's issuer under “Trust of the verifying party”.

## `status_list_invalid`

**The status list is defective.**

**Cause:** The status list is defective: its signature is invalid, it has expired or its content is not readable.

**Fix:** Load the status list again from the issuer. The status list decoder shows whether it is readable and how many entries it contains.

## `no_status_reference`

**The mandate names no revocation mechanism.**

**Cause:** The mandate refers to no status list and therefore cannot be revoked.

**Fix:** Issue mandates with a reference to a status list so they can be revoked before they expire.

## Common situations

The most common code is the missing status list: KYA does not load lists from the network itself. Provide the current list under status lists. With the status list decoder, you can see in advance whether it is readable and which value the index has.

## How to test this check

The “Mandate without status list” example on the verification page shows the most common case. Provide the status list, and the check is run.
